Search for Māori golfing talent

The Tamariki Junior Golf Programme is looking for the next Michael Cambell.

Get them while they’re young, says Sam Parsons, facilitator of the Tamariki Junior Golf Programme. Parsons says he is trying to identify the next generation of Māori golf stars.

He'll be holding a session at Auckland’s Chamberlain Park golf course tomorrow morning for tamariki who want to find out  about the game. He’ll be looking out for kids who may never have swung a club but have some natural ability that they  show in other back yard games.

"Sports and athletic background and family, that's what golf is about. It's about bringing the family together. Playing golf with mum or dad, your uncles or aunties, getting them in there," he says.

Parsons' first session at Chamberlain Park in Mt Albert, Auckland for eight-year-olds up starts at 10.00am, with another one for seven-year-olds and under starting at 10.15am.
