Shane Taurima to run for Tāmaki Makaurau again

Former TVNZ broadcaster Shane Taurima has been selected as the Tāmaki Makaurau candidate for the Māori Party.

The former Marae and Q&A presenter has been working as an advisor in the office of Māori Party co-leader Te Ururoa Flavell and was selected by the local electorate committee and party members over the weekend. The decision has yet to be ratified by the national committee but is expected to go through unopposed.

At the 2014 election, Taurima contested the Tāmaki Makaurau seat for the Labour Party.

The Māori Party had been in talks with Willie Jackson to stand in the seat, but Jackson announced his decision to stand for Labour in February.
